Claiming VAT Relief
If you are chronically sick or disabled, you can claim VAT Relief on products shown displaying the VAT Relief symbol on the product page, if the goods are for your own personal or domestic use.
A person is ‘chronically sick or disabled’ if he/she is a person:
- With a physical or mental impairment which has a long-term effect on their ability to carry out everyday activities.
- With a condition which the medical profession treats as a chronic sickness (example: diabetes).
It does not include a frail, elderly person who is only temporarily disabled or incapacitated as with a broken limb.
If you are unsure, seek guidance from your GP or other Medical Professional.
For a product to be eligible for VAT relief, the original design intention has to be purely for use by a disabled person. Equipment or appliances designed for general use or designed for use by disabled and able-bodied people alike do not qualify.
If you are acting on behalf of a ‘chronically sick or disabled person’ your supply is treated as being made to that person.
