Vilhelm Hertz is a small, Danish artisan company that creates beautiful handmade mobility aids using mainly natural, locally sourced materials.  The Moomin Crutch has been inspired by classic Danish furniture art with a great deal of emphasis on the choice of materials that wear out beautifully and thereby last many years. The special characteristic of a Vilhelm Hertz crutch, namely the flexibility, can be adapted exactly to your personal requirements.

The Moomin crutches are solid carbon fiber. You can choose from 10 or 12 mm Ø depending on how elastic or stiff crutch you need. Carbon fiber is an incredibly strong material and at the same time has the fantastic property that the stick bends slightly when exposed to pressure. It means to you that the shock that goes through the crutch every time you put it in the ground, it is absorbed into the arch, instead of continuing up through the arm to your elbow and shoulder.

Vilhelm Hertz crutches are made to order. They offer a full buyback guarantee after 6 weeks of normal use of their crutch/es if they do not meet the buyer's expectation of quality or functionality. They offer this service as it is essential that customers are 100% satisfied.

  • The turned handle is made from ash or oak
  • Supporting bracket consists of Oak and Ash wood and recycled CNC aluminium
  • The shaft is made from aluminium (alloy 2007) with Carbon Fibre rod in 10 or 12 mm
  • The handle is made from hand-sewn core leather
  • 16 mm tips/ferrules
  • Wood treated with linseed oil
  • Leather - oil-treated or natural
  • Weight - 699g (this may vary slightly as the crutches are partly made from natural materials)
  • Maximum user weight 130 Kg with carbon fibre shaft or 100 Kg with aluminium

"... there is only praise! Then we just hope that something will come of it too :)

And last but not least, I personally have great pleasure in walking around with them. They are significantly better than the hospital !! but you knew it :) " Anne Black

"Many thanks to Vilhelm Hertz, for the fine crutch 👌 great work"  Erik Knudsen
