The Vilhelm Hertz Walking Stick is a real statement piece and a beautiful example of Danish design and craftsmanship. The handle and upper shaft are lovingly turned from Oak which is subsequently treated with linseed. The lower shaft of the cane is engineered from carbon fibre for minimum weight and incredible flexibility for optimum strength.
The Oak sections of the canes are crafted by sculptor and cabinet maker, Kristoffer Vilhelm in his own workshop and Thomas Hertz is responsible for engineering the carbon fibre section which is finished off with a black, anti-slip rubber ferrule. The canes come in one size which you can then cut to size and the handle is designed so that you can freely move your hand, which avoids unilateral repeated wear and it, therefore, lasts longer.
Cutting to size:
These 100 cm long canes they can be cut to any desired length, either with an angle grinder, mitre saw or hack saw to cut the carbon fibre rod. The rubber tip is usually just pressed onto the carbon fibre rod; if there is too much slack, wind a little bit of duct tape around the end of the rod before pressing the rubber tip on; of course making sure that the tape is invisible and that the ferrule is properly secured.
